Green Day Biography
Green Day started off as a garage band in Rodeo, California. Which Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt had started at the age of 14. When they were 17, the pair first recorded there first song with drummer and band manger John Kiffmeyer and then where known as Green Day. The band chose there name Green Day because

, of their fondness to marijuana. John Kiffmeyer was
the band's drummer and business manager, he also booked shows and helped the band setup a fan base.
Then in 1989 Green Day then wrote
there first album "1000 Hours" with the independent record label Lookout! Then Later in 1990 Green day wrote there first LP, 39/Smooth. Soon after in 1990 John Kiffmeyer left the band to go to collage. So they got drummer Tré Cool to fill in as a temporary replacement drummer. But soon after Tr`e Cool became green days permanent drummer. In 1991, Lookout! Records released 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, a compilation of the 39/Smooth, Slappy, and 1,000 Hours EPs.

Then in 1992 and 1993 the band mostly went on tour in Europe and overseas.Then band's second full length album Kerplunk sold about 50,000 copies in the U.S. Kerplunck's suscess led to an interest in other major record labels. So Soon after they left Lookout! Records and signed with Reprise records. Many called Green d
ay sellouts after doing this. After signing with Reprise, the band went to work on recording its major label debut, Dookie.
Dookie was recorded in three weeks and released in February 1994, with help by mtv dookie became a commercial success. Mtv played songs such as "Longveiw", "Basket Case" and"When I Come around, which all of these songs made it to the number one position on the charts. Then in 1994 the band joined the lineups of both the Lollapalooza festival and Woodstock they started a mud fight. Then a security guard punched Mike Dirnt and knocked out a few teeth, Because he
thought he was on of the stage invading
troublemakers. People watched this on Pay-Per-View, And because of this the band became famous. In 1995, Dookie won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album, And where also nominated for 9 MTV Video Music Awards.
Then in the October of 1997, Green day released Nimrod. Nimrod contained pop-punk, surf rock, and ska, to an acoustic ballad. Then With the success of "Good Riddance" the band received an MTV Video Award for Best Alternative Video for the song's video.

In 2000, Green Day released Warning, and soon after wrote the hit song "Minority." Then at the
2001 California Music Awards, Green Day wrote all eight awards. They won the awards for Outstanding Album (Warning), Outstanding Punk Rock/Ska Album (Warning), Outstanding Group,
Outstanding Male Vocalist, Outstanding Bassist, Outstanding Drummer, Outstanding Songwriter
and Outstanding Artist.
In 2004 the band released "American Idiot", Which was number one on the
charts. Then soon after American Idiot won The Grammy for Best Rock Ablum.
